PWCs are increasingly getting embraced by many people for their ease of transporting and the thrills they offer. It's no wonder they’ve become more popular over the last couple of decades, and you’ll find these machines are among the most valuable possessions of many people. However, personal watercrafts are very enticing to thieves, who’ll go out of their way to steal one from unsuspecting owners. Luckily enough for you, at S&N MotorSports, we’ve drawn up some tips on keeping your PWC safe from theft. To learn more, visit our location in Port Charlotte, Florida, serving Fort Myers, Florida.

Water Safety

It's essential to avoid leaving your watercraft unattended in the water. However, if you must, have it chained to the dock or an immovable object. Similarly, ensure you remove the safety lanyard from the machine or lifejacket that isn’t on you. Some PWCs have advanced features such as electronic lock, digitally encoded lanyard, or removable magnetic key to enhance your craft’s security.

Trailer Safety

Safety is also needed when hauling your PWC in a trailer. You need to acquire a heavy-duty drill-proof lock, although they aren’t cheap. Some ideal options are the coupler latch lock, receiver locks, anti-theft wheel locks, and bow pin locks.

Similarly, extra caution is needed to safeguard the trailer if you plan to rest overnight while hauling your PWC. Park in a well-lit area with security cameras within a hotel vicinity. You should also invest in a motion sensor alarm for the tow vehicle.

Storage Safety

When it’s time to store you’re PWC, rely on your best judgment to find a safe and secure place such as your garage. However, you may not always have access to a garage area, therefore, store it away from prying eyes, or park your car directly in front of it as a last resort to prevent any access.

If storing it outside in the driveway, be sure to install the anti-theft clock on your trailer’s wheel and also turn the trailer after so that the hitch isn’t accessible. Similarly, when storing the PWC for an extended period, you should remove the wheels from the trailer and install a coupler lock. You can use a locking lug nut to prevent thieves from fitting a wheel on the trailer and also hide your spare tire.

Extra Tips

You should have a detailed photo of your watercraft as a way of increasing security. Make a video or take a photo of the Hull Identification Number(HIN), your PWC trailer, the engine compartment. It'll be much easier if something happens, and you’re needed to identify your PWC.
